2013 Research Paper (Process Paper)
Introduction:
For my research paper, I chose my topic, “Turning Points of the Korean War: China’s Entry” because my topic about the Korean War is a significant event to me. Even though I was not even born yet, the Korean War is a war between the two Koreas and the topic is very interesting to me because obviously I am Korean. I want to know more details about the Korean War and why the Chinese really want to be a part of the Korean War; despite they were not being involved in the war. I am focusing on what the Chinese did in order to stop the US and the UN forces to occupy the entire land of North Korea.
Process (Phase 1)(First Phase):
I conducted my research by researching the background information of the major turning point events of the Korean War. After researching several websites, I decided on the Primary Documents, Images, Photographs, Videos, Maps and Links that were pertinent to my topic. I then organized them into a timeline of the major turning points on my website. My thesis statement is based on China’s entry into the Korean War. As I am writing the body paragraphs, I am starting to use my annotated bibliography to put the key events, key people, and the significant events in order. As I discovered many different viewpoints on the websites that I utilized in my research, I found that I had to come to certain conclusions about the war. I found that I was intrigued by the topics of the U.N. Counterattack by General Douglas MacArthur and the subsequent dismissal of General MacArthur by President Truman. I further discovered that there is an abundance of information online about the Korean War. (Conclusion part: Discuss later)
Process (Phase 2)(Final Phase):
I selected my presentation category as multimedia “website” including the use of primary documents, images, photographs, videos, maps and links to other sites of interest. I chose the website because it facilitates visual learners and provides information in a multimedia format. The world wide web gave me an opportunity to share my research with other web users. The internet is a great learning tool for students. I feel that my research and conclusions are different from other websites that I saw and provide the reader with a real sense of who I am as a website creator. I felt strongly that my conclusions based on my research demonstrated original thinking.
Conclusion:
My research project is related to the theme of “Turning Points” in history because I researched and discussed major turning points in the Korean War, including the Chinese entry into the conflict. The primary documents, images, photographs, videos, maps and links discuss each major turning point and direct the reader of the site to the major events, people and ideas behind this war. The reader will also enjoy the visual aspects of the carefully chosen videos of the U.S. Counterattack, U.S. and Korean participants in the war as well links to additional information.
